Nigeria and Ghana both belong to the Commonwealth of Nations, and back in the day whenever our prissy Colonial Masters wanted to show reverence for a lady they’d just met, they would lean forward, grab her hand and plant a neat kiss on it; sounds pretty innocent, right?

That was then and more importantly, that was there; try hand-kissing a simple-minded African woman you’re meeting for the first time today and get a free slap for your troubles. That hasn’t stopped the Ghanaian duo of Paedae and Mugeez from trying though, and judging by the success of their rework of Wande and Ikechukwu’s chart-topping jam, the risky ‘kiss’ just might have been well worth it.

The visual direction for the song was provided by Max Shaw and in the short clip, the duo (and their Mo’ Hits accomplice) went from Accra Malling to chilling on the runway and then house-partying with some of the lightest-skinned women in Ghana. The video is crisp, MTV Base-quality but if you don’t like seeing the usual combination of flashy cars, buxom ladies, club lights and (mostly unopened) bottles of champagne, feel free to wrestle your hand away from R2Bee’s firm grip and cover your eyes.

R2Bees (Refuse to Be Broke), did have one other hit song that made it to the Nigerian dance floor - I Dei Mad Oh!, but the success of Kiss Your Hand is the main reason Ghana’s hip-life exponents R2Bees are enjoying radio play in Nigeria these days.

One last thing, KYH is Wande Coal’s first post-scandal music video. ‘What scandal?’ You might ask. That’s good, most of us have forgotten about it already; I just wanted to remove any elephants that might have been in the room.
