YQ – A Man For All Features

In 2008, then little-known YQ and the late Dagrin burst onto the scene with the swag anthem of the year Efi mile, and watched the trajectory of their individual careers head skyward permanently. Don’t get it twisted though, both men were already in the game and desperately trying to come up before that song was released, but whatever YQ and Dagrin might have achieved prior to Efi mile was nothing compared to the exposure they would experience in the months that followed its release.

Dagrin already had one album under his belt at the time, but unfortunately Still On the Matter did so poorly that its sales tally after his death 4 months ago would probably rival the sales total in the roughly 4 year period between its release and Dagrin’s passing (exaggerated).YQ wasn’t fairing any better either, as part of a two man team called Krest-Up, YQ tried hard to get a look in but found opportunities hard to come by. Thankfully, all that would change when Dokta Frabz laid that epic beat, Dagrin sprayed his now-trademark witty bars and YQ hollered ‘EEEYYYYOOOOOO!’

However, that was as far back as ’08, so while building anticipation for his oft-delayed debut album, YQ hopped from studio to studio lending his vocals to some of the biggest songs in the past year or two and with each feature, the Kogi state native solidified his credentials as one of the most gifted songwriters in the land, blessed with the ability to turn even the flattest choruses into catchy radio hits.

It’s no secret that YQ is blessed with the gift of melody so recently, I went into his discography to pick my favourite collaborations of his so far, let’s see if you agree with me.
